Surgery

I pierced my ears at the age of eleven or twelve I don't quite remember exactly what age I was. The reason why I had my ears pierced was because all my sisters had already pierced theirs so I wanted to have mine pierced too. As soon as I had them pierced, they hurt for a couple of days and my mom was helping me take care of them. I was wearing the same type of earrings which were gold because my mom had told me that it is best to wear only gold earrings.

A couple of months later I began to feel a small little bump on the back of my left ear but I decided to ignore it because I thought it happens to everyone whom had just pierced their ears. my mom told me to just keep treating my ears well and she said that they will be fine.

When I was in high school the little bump on the back of my ears was getting bigger and bigger everyday. every time i looked in the mirror I would notice a slight change in size. My mother decided to arrange for me a doctor's appointment and when we went to the doctor, she told me that what I had was known as Keeloids. my doctor said that one usually gets them when your skin is sensitive to any kind of piercings. she said the best way to get rid of them is by injecting some medical steroids in them to see if they will reduce in size if not then i was to have surgery so they can be removed.

Before spring break my mom had scheduled for me a doctor's appointment at Whidden Hospital in Everett so I can have surgery on my ears. During Spring break I was told to come in on Thursday for my appointment but the night before the surgery there were certain things I was told not to do. For example I was told not to eat anything after midnight, or even drink water, I was also told not to chew gum, or any other kind of breath mint not until after my surgery. I went fifteen hours without eating because the surgery was scheduled at 3:00 pm.

After the surgery I went home with a gauze and bandages on both of my ears and the doctor prescribed some medication that I was supposed to take for the pain and some antibiotics. Taking the medication I would at times feel dizzy and drowsiness but those were the side effects from it and sometimes when I went to sleep I would feel some pain. so I had to take the medication four times a day, every 6 hours and I'm still taking it. currently I don't feel any pain no more but I am supposed to go back to the hospital next week so I can have the stitches taken out.
